Biomedical Technician Training Degrees
When people need to have a procedure completed in hospital or doctor’s office, they depend on the doctor’s training to perform the surgery or treatment correctly. Many people don’t realize that they are also relying on the medical equipment that the doctor uses to give him accurate information about their stability and their vital signs. Biomedical technicians are the professionals responsible for inspecting, calibrating, testing, modifying, repairing and maintaining a large variety of medical equipment and machinery. In order to pursue this career path, qualified candidates are required to complete an associate’s degree in medical technology, or an engineering field that is relevant to the medical field from a respected technical college. Typically these educational programs only take two years to complete, and following graduation, many choose to complete a national examination in order to become a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET). After receiving the necessary training, biomedical technicians can choose to apply for jobs in a variety of medical organizations and companies, such as hospitals, nursing homes, private and public health clinics, and in some cases, sales or quality control professionals for equipment manufacturers. Because the health care industry is experiencing such exponential growth right now, the demand for qualified biomedical technicians is increasing rapidly, and the average salary is reported to be around $53,230, depending on experience and location.
