Clinical Assistant Specialist Degrees

When you visit the doctor’s office, you’re probably used to talking with a clinical assistant specialist before you actually are seen by the physician. These trained medical professionals are hired to perform a wide variety of duties that help the doctor or practical nurse to make the most efficient use of their time in the office. Depending on the type of facility in which they are working, and the state in which they’ve been hired, a clinical assistant specialist can be responsible for everything from noting patient medical histories and taking vital signs, to preparing the patient for examination and assisting with in office procedures. Those that are interested in becoming a professional clinical assistant specialist should seek out an accredited one year certificate program or a two year associate’s degree program that will prepare them for interaction with doctors and patients on a daily basis. During the course of this secondary education, students will receive training in physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology, as well as office management and data entry. Additional credentials are also available through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and Association of Medical Technologists (AMT). Because there is an increased demand in the medical industry for qualified health care assistants and technicians, the number of jobs for clinical assistant specialists is expected to grow rapidly. The average salary for a clinical assistant is around $29,720.
