Gerontology Training Degrees
Those that are interested in a career that will allow them to help older people live a healthier and more fulfilling life should consider pursuing gerontology training that will allow them to obtain the skills they need to be successful. Because gerontology is a multi-disciplinary part of health care, it is possible to prepare for a career in this field through several educational channels. In most cases, it is required that interested individuals pursue a bachelor’s degree or higher in order to be eligible for the most desirable jobs. However, if you’re not ready to commit to a four year program, associate’s degree programs are also available. Graduates in this field are able to pursue professional positions in nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities, and private hospice companies. Following graduation, and depending on the career path that is being pursued, there might be licensure, certification, or registration requirements that will have to be fulfilled as well. Depending on experience and location, gerontologists are usually able to earn a comfortable salary, averaging around $30, 650 a year. If you are wondering whether or not there is a good future for those with gerontology training, you should know that the health care industry is expected to expand quickly over the next ten years.
