Herbology Training Degrees
Have you always been interested in the way that diet and exercise can be combined to offer an alternative form of treatment for common illnesses and health conditions? Many cultures have used herbs and other foods to treat everything from migraines to indigestion and thanks to a recent resurgence in the alternative health movement, these holistic treatments are again becoming popular. Of course, there is a lot more involved in treating a medical condition with herbs safely and effectively, than just making a cup of tea and hoping that it works. This is why people interested in this career path often see training to become a recognized herbologist in their community. Typically, accredited herbology training programs can be enrolled in at the junior college or technical vocational school in your area, and depending on the degree awarded, they can last anywhere from six months to two years. Most courses will include an introduction to herbal medicine, basic principles of botany, plant language and the practice of manufacturing herbal medicines. To be successful in this field, practitioners must have knowledge of herbal medicine that is grounded in scientific fact, although spirituality is usually a big part of the holistic health movement. As the public interest in herbology continues to grow, there will be more and more opportunities to start a career in this field. The average salary for a herbologist is around $50,000 a year.
