Hospital Facilities Management Training Degrees

Although many people view hospitals as a sacred place where lives are often at their most vulnerable, one must never forget that there are a lot of practical and logistical processes necessary to keep a medical facility running smoothly. A hospital facilities manager is responsible for overseeing all the processes of the hospital that don’t pertain to patients and their families. This means ordering supplies, including food and paper products, organizing the schedules of facilities maintenance workers, like janitors and orderlies. In order to be successful in this career, one must have a talent for efficient utilization of physical and financial resources and also be able to communicate well with all different types of staff members. To train to become a hospital facilities manager, students must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and then seek enrollment in an accredited Master's of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master's of Health Administration program. Typically these programs will take two to three years to complete, on top of the four year bachelor’s program. Because hospitals are expanding rapidly, and being forced to establish more efficient and financially conscious processes, talented hospital facilities mangers are in high demand. Well trained candidates for these positions can earn around $71,000 a year.
