Medical Engineer Training Degrees
Have you always been interested in the way that science and technology intersect in the medical professions? These days doctors and nurses are able to complete complicated procedures that weren’t even possible a decade or two ago, thanks to advanced technology and sophisticated medical equipment. Although doctors and nurses must be trained to utilize this machinery, it is the medical engineers and biomedical technicians that are responsible for designing, making and maintaining these devices. Those that are interested in a career as a medical engineer are required to complete a four year bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably with a specialization in the medical sciences. Depending on the school, it may also be possible to earn a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, which is even better. After graduation, it is typical for most aspiring medical engineers to seek certification and licensure from their state of residence. Those that complete this preparatory requirements are typically employed in medical organizations or companies, such as academic or government research facilities, hospitals, the armed forces, or even as a developer at a medical equipment company. Because there are so many people in need of more efficient and affordable medical care, the outlook for medical engineering jobs is bright. The average salary for a well trained candidate is around $67,890, depending on location and experience.
