When you think of the medical industry, or health care service providers, you probably think about doctors and nurses, who are the ones providing the most hands on care to patients that come to visit them. These people are known as medical informatics specialists, and they can choose to focus on a variety of administrative tasks, from coding and billing, to records examinations and secretarial duties. Most medical informatics specialists go to school for an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in health services administration, although others choose to specialize in medical records administration or coding and billing. To be successful in this field, one must be able to communicate well with a wide variety of people, as you will likely be required to interact with both patients and doctors and nurses. Depending on the facility where you work, you might also be required to communicate with insurance claims examiners and other administrators. Because the medical industry has been experiencing vast growth over all sectors, many medical professionals are finding themselves in need of qualified medical informatics specialists. The outlook for this industry is supposed to be very favorable over the next eight to ten years, and most medical informatics workers can expect to make around $30,660, depending on experience.
