Medical Lab Technician Training Degrees
When many people think of the most important health care professionals, they often envision nurses, doctors, and surgeons because these are the people that typically have the most interaction with a patient during their treatment. However, many people fail to realize that the medical lab technician is also an integral part of the health care team. A professional medical lab technician is trained to utilize sophisticated technological equipment to prepare, test, and examine fluid and tissue samples provided by patients and their doctors. Although most of the hands on responsibilities of a medical lab technician have been taken over by these machines, technicians are still required to apply medical and scientific theory to help interpret the results of their tests. Most medical lab technicians are required to complete at least an associate’s degree in medical science or terminology, and most go on to complete their bachelor’s degree in a related field as well. Upon graduation, many of these students go to work for research hospitals or universities, where they will have access to the equipment they need to perform their jobs. The demand for well trained medical lab technicians is increasing, as hospitals implement more sophisticated laboratories in order to stay on the cutting edge of treatment methodology. Entry level medical lab technicians can expect to earn an average salary of around $36,840, depending on location and experience.
