If so, you should consider entering into a psychologist training program that will give you the professional skills that you need to have a career helping people to manage their lives and their feelings in a more productive way. It’s important to know that in order to become an independent psychologist, it is necessary to complete an undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral degree. This means that you will be investing around five to seven years of your life after undergraduate school to the study of your social science; however, completing all of this training will allow you to be eligible for the highest level psychologist positions. Following graduation and licensure, most psychology students choose to go into practice for themselves, and recruit a moderate number of regular clients that they will get to know, and develop treatment programs for. A successful psychologist need to have the ability to remain objective while listening to their patients, but also able to maintain a compassionate composure. Because of better education about mental illness, many more people are seeking psychological therapy than ever before in this country.
