Respiratory Care Therapist Training Degrees
Do you remember when you were a little kid and you tried to hold your breath longer than your friend? It doesn’t take long for young humans to learn that without the ability to breathe, it is impossible to sustain life. Those that have illnesses or injuries that interfere with their ability to breathe are regularly referred to respiratory care therapists who are trained to examine, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate patients who have breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. If you are considering becoming a respiratory care therapist for your career in the health care industry, you should know that there are different levels of education that will make you eligible for jobs with different levels of responsibility. At the very least, you will need to enroll in an accredited training program that will provide you with an associate’s degree offered by a technical college or junior university. Subjects that are covered in these programs include human anatomy and physiology, physics, microbiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, pharmacology, and mathematics. In most states, it is also necessary to complete a licensure or certification exam to round out their credentials. As with many of the health care professions, demand for respiratory care therapists is growing, and the average salary for a well trained candidate is around $52,200, depending on experience and location.
