Surgical Technologist Training Degrees

Being diagnosed with an illness or a medical condition that requires surgery can be scary for most patients. Even if a procedure is routine, there is always an element of risk when you are required to be unconscious through the use of an anesthetic. Although the surgeon and his team are the ones most directly involved in the process, it is the job of the surgical technologist to prepare the patient for the procedure, explain expectations to the patient and their family, and assist the surgeon by providing tools and reports on vital signs during the procedure. If you have always been interested in the surgical sciences, this might be the entry level position for you. It’s important to note that a surgical technologist is required to complete around two years of training in order to be certified in the field. While certificates, diplomas and associate’s degrees are all available for this medical profession, it is important to achieve the highest level possible to be eligible for the best positions. In most cases, surgical technologists will obtain jobs in hospitals, or specialty surgical practices. If you are considering this career path, you should know that a rapid increase in the number of jobs available for surgical technologists is expected over the next few years. The average salary for a well trained surgical technologist is around $38,740 a year, depending on specialty.
