Health & Beauty Management
Description: The Health and Beauty Management program prepares the licensed cosmetologist to own or operate a beauty parlor, salon or spa or to manage his or her own booth. This degree is designed for individuals who have earned a cosmetology certificate or diploma and have successfully passed their state board of cosmetology exam. A maximum of 60 quarter credit hours from a cosmetology certificate or diploma program is required to transfer into the health and beauty vocational core. Students are able to add business skills to their industry knowledge and experiences through a performance-based curriculum that includes studies in management, marketing, communication, and career management. This program is an excellent option for students who wish to pursue a management career or become an entrepreneur in the health and beauty sector.

Description: The Health Care Management program is designed for individuals interested in finding career opportunities in administrative or leadership positions within the diverse health care field or within their own area of clinical/professional expertise. And, as the baby boomer generation grows older and advances in medical technology continue to improve, the need for health services workers in various medical career fields is increasing dramatically. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, wage and salary employment in the health services industry is projected to increase 28 percent through 2012, compared with 16 percent for all industries combined.

Health Information Technology
Description: NAU's Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) is an excellent career choice if you see yourself working in the in-demand health care field, but not directly with patients. As a graduate of this program, it may be your job to verify the completeness and accuracy of medical records and data entry into computer systems to ensure medical record quality; to use technology to analyze for quality and efficiency of patient care; to code patient diagnoses and procedures for research or reimbursement purposes; or to work in specialized registries that maintain data for medical research.
NAU is currently pursuing program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) to allow graduates of the HIT program to be eligible to take the certification examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Healthcare Coding
Description: NAU's diploma program in Healthcare Coding is an excellent career choice if you see yourself working in the in-demand health care field but not directly with patients. Coding professionals are key players in the healthcare workplace, accurately converting disease, injury and procedure descriptions documented in patient records into numeric or alphanumeric codes using coding manuals and encoder software. These codes assist in securing reimbursement for physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers. Healthcare organizations also use coded data for quality management, planning, marketing, and other administrative and research activities.
NAU is currently pursuing program accreditation through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to prepare program graduates for the certification examination to become Certified Coding Associates (CCA). Should you decide to further your education, this program will easily transfer into NAU's Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology.

Master of Science Nursing
Description: The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program with emphasis in Nursing Education has been developed to prepare future nurse educators for leadership in the field. Administrative duties may include greeting patients, setting appointment times, scheduling hospital admissions, medical transcription, medical record management, insurance coding and billing, bill collections, office compliance and other general medical office procedures.

Medical Assisting
Description: National American University's Medical Assisting program utilizes a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions, as well as an externship following completion of required course work. Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical duties in a physician's office or other outpatient care settings within the scope of specific training and state law, and in accordance with assignments by a physician.
Administrative duties may include patient scheduling, reception duties, medical record management, medical transcription, office correspondence, medical insurance procedures and office accounts, fees and collections.
