The Medical Administrative Specialist degree program at the Platt College School of Medical Sciences is designed to help you acquire the knowledge and skills required to become a professional medical administrative specialist, working in the fast-growing health care field. Our graduates typically find employment in health care clinics, physicians' offices, insurance companies, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities, working as part of a healthcare delivery team interacting with patients, insurers, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
Platt College's Medical Administrative Specialist program includes extensive training in medical billing and coding procedures for managed care and private plans, state and government plans, and dental practices. Students also receive training to perform a variety of administrative procedures critical to the daily operation necessary to running a smooth, effective medical office, including: medical office procedures, human resources, medical transcription, patient scheduling, office finance, and delinquent claims tracing and collections. Medical Administrative Specialist students will learn the skills that may lead toward becoming an office manager in a clinical setting.
As part of our program, Platt College places all Medical Administrative Specialist students in an externship to provide experience in a real-world clinical setting.
Certification is an important qualification often required by employers. Graduates of our program are eligible to take the Medical Assisting Certification examination offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) to become a Insurance and Coding Specialist.
