Description: This program is a full-time day program that prepares students in the basic skills and knowledge required for a career as a practical nurse. Graduates will possess the skills and knowledge to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a doctor or registered nurse. The program provides a combination of classroom instruction and hands on experience in local health care facilities. Prism graduates are prepared to take the NCLEX-PN exam upon program completion. Licensed Practical Nurses are in high demand. They primarily care for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. They take vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration. They also treat bedsores, prepare and give injections and enemas, apply dressings, give alcohol rubs and massages, apply ice and hot water bottles and monitor catheters. LPNs observe patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments. They collect samples for testing; perform needed laboratory tests, feed patients and record food and fluid intake and output. They help patients with bathing, dressing and personal hygiene, keep them comfortable and care for their emotional needs.
